grantor: University of TorontoAn electromagnetic device is proposed for the separation of inclusions from Aluminum. The device utilizes a magnetic structure that generates a current within the flow regime. The Electromagnetic force field exerts a pressure upon the inclusions which propels them towards a wall where they accumulate and are prevented from re-entering the stream. The thesis presents two mathematical models which are used to reveal the fundamental mechanisms of inclusion removal from a liquid metal stream.
