In this study, a heat exchanger network for a mechanical pulp and paper mill is retrofitted by pinch analysis. The study focuses on the cooling and heating systems of paper machines and grinderies. The analysis reveals that the process is operated efficiently but there is a possibility to still improve energy efficiency of the plant. An alternative heat exchanger network is proposed
