Strategizing for open innovation

This paper goes beyond open innovation and expands from theoretical discussion to analyses of company practise and decision making while opening their innovation processes. According to the case observations introduced here the link between the expressed strategic considerations on knowledge and observed open innovation activities is often noticeably weak. The companies have grand ideas on openness but fail to integrate open innovation activities to their business model. We suggest that sustainability in innovation can only be reached with a holistic approach to strategy, open innovation and knowledge management. Companies need to find new ways to evaluate and manage their innovation activities and business model development as a whole.
