The purpose of this paper is to discuss various features of information and communication technologies (ICT) within e-maintenance, especially web technologies, such as the Semantic Web and Web Services. However, recently a new concept and new technologies have emerged, i.e. Web 2.0 technologies, even called social-media technologies. With the emergence of these and their concept the organizational structure has become an important factor to consider, since the effectiveness of the organization needs to be regarded as a socio-technical system dependent on the interaction between the employees, the organization and its technical systems.
