The Needs and Expectations of Ageing Citizens - a Potential for Mobile Terminal Developers and Service Providers

The paper describes the needs and expectations of Finnish aging citizens towards mobile products and services. VTT carried out a user-driven innovation campaign with the aim of collecting mobile service ideas for coping with everyday life situations. Around 4300 ideas of aging persons were collected and published in the Internet for open and free use. The ideas reflect experienced needs of the aging citizens in everyday life. Some of them are commercially exploitable and can be developed with the current technology, albeit many ideas are dependent on the development of future technologies in the long run. The ideas act as source of inspiration and foster further development. The future mobile service concepts are expected to produce new business models, for the benefit of the users and the service providers
