An integrated multiobjective design tools has been developed for pulp and paper process design. This tool combines the rigorous process calculations of the BALAS process simulator and the interactive multiobjective optimization method NIMBUS. With this design tool the designer can consider several conflicting performance criteria simultaneously. The interactivity of this tool allows the designer to learn about the behaviour of the problem. To illustrate the possibilities of this design tool, three case studies have been considered. Two of them are related to paper making while the third one is related to power plants
