Implementation of advanced ICT solutions for multimodal freight transport collaboration

This paper aims to recognise new ITS/ICT based innovations in multimodal freight transport operations. The focus is to research what are the prerequisites for collaboration, what benefits are achieved and how transferable the solutions are. Case study methodology and Multi-Criteria-Analysis were used. In all 12 cases were selected, of which three for in-depth analysis. The first case deals with port, the second corridor and the third freight bundling. The benefits of ICT solutions in pursuing sustainable, safe, smooth and efficient logistics and transport are evident. However, the collaboration should optimize entire supply chain's operations and consider multiple perspectives. This requires common ICT development regarding interfaces, platforms and single window systems. The analyses of the cases showed that if enough resources are devoted to successful adoption, remarkable business and logistics benefits are obtained
