Augmented reality for AIT, AIV and operations

The 'EdcAR - Engineering Data In Cross Platform AR' project demonstrates a versatile solution for augmented reality visualizations and user interaction in various space applications. Objective of this activity is to assess where Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality is a productive tool in aerospace industry. In addition, the following sub objectives shall also be achieved as part of the project: (1) Identification of critical technology areas, (2) Architecture and Design of a generic EdcAR solution, and (3) Implementation of a Proof-Of-Concept demonstrator. The project identifies three most relevant use cases, which are baseline for requirement, specification and workflows for of a Proof-Of-Concept demonstrator: (1) Support to Telecom Payload Coax Cables Assembly, (2) On-board Training and Remote Support of Centralized Cabin Filter Replacement in ISS, and (3) Remote Support during Parallel Procedure Execution with 2 users Based on the final presentation at EAC and a demonstration with the MS Hololens head mounted display in their Columbus mock-up, the project reached all expectations successfully.
