Guest Editorial

The present special issue of Wear contains selected papers from the 9th Nordic Symposium on Tribology, NORDTRIB 2000, which was held in Porvoo, Finland on 11–14 June 2000. The symposium was organised by the Technical Research Centre of Finland (VTT) with the support of the Finnish Society for Tribology. The NORDTRIB 2000 Nordic Advisory Board participated in the scientific preparations for the symposium. A total of 142 participants and 11 accompanying persons from 23 countries took part in the symposium. The symposium comprised 73 oral presentations and 19 posters. As NORDTRIB is a bi-annual conference, which alternates between the Nordic countries in the order Finland–Sweden–Norway–Denmark, the next NORDTRIB will accordingly be held in Stockholm, Sweden in 9–12 June 2002
