Knowledge management in different types of strategic SME networks

Appropriate Knowledge Management (KM) practices within organisation can be seen as one of the main prerequisites of enhancement of continuous innovation capability. Innovation capability is very important especially for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), in order for them to survive in the tough competition. However, there are surprisingly few academic studies that deal with Knowledge Management from the viewpoint of SME’s. In particular, the number of such studies that deal the issue from the network perspective is even more limited. This paper aims to fulfil this gap in its own part by bridging the Knowledge Management and network literatures from the viewpoint of SMEs. Based on the synthesis of the earlier literature, a typology of the strategic SME network types and their key Knowledge Management challenges are provided in the paper
