X-ray nanotomography was successfully applied for studying individual fibre bonds. In spite of several problems a small number of fibre bonds between springwood fibres (unrefined and refined) were examined. The results show that only a fraction of the crossing areas of fibres was found to be bonded, and the reason may be partially in the surface chemical properties, and mechanical stiffness of fibre surfaces
