157 p.Thesis (Ph.D.)--University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 2006.This qualitative study included interviews with six spousal caregivers in one community to examine the narratives produced by spouses actively caring for their partners with dementia. The spousal caregivers were interviewed multiple times over approximately 12 months. Their narratives were analyzed using a phenomenological approach that allowed development of descriptions of identity, social support, coping with uncertainty, and sharing their stories with a specialized audience.
