Colonies become more gracile through time, but populations are not ecotypes tracking favorable environmental conditions. Characters describing zooidal living chambers contribute more to the discrimination of populations through time, and shifts occur in interdependent character responses. Unidirectional temporal morphologic trends are expressed among individual characters and among all populations analyzed concurrently.
