171 p.Thesis (Ph.D.)--University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 1999.A controller was developed based on the concept of system events being controlled based on the distance traveled by sprayer vehicle a way of directing the herbicide onto the weeds when they are sensed by the sensing system. A design methodology for this "real-distance" control was developed and the system was tested under controlled outdoor field conditions. It exhibited a 91 percent hit accuracy with no evidence of significant difference across travel velocity levels.U of I OnlyRestricted to the U of I community idenfinitely during batch ingest of legacy ETD
