194 p.Thesis (Ph.D.)--University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 1999.In the second part of this thesis, coordination networks based on silver(I) triflate and tetrahedral ligands functionalized with nitrile groups were found to be porous. Moreover, triflate as a coordinating counterion can be utilized as a mean to increase the predictability of the network structures. Counterion effect was further tested by the crystal structures of silver(I) 3- and 4-cyanobenzenesulfonates which are one- and two-dimensional continuous networks respectively.
