The interactions of these platinum complexes with the DNA-heptamer d(CCTGTCC):d(GGACAGG) were examined and a NMR based high resolution structure was determined. Surprisingly both platinum-DNA complexes do not form a very stable complex with its complementary strand. Over time the platinum-DNA complex decomposes and either the 2-methyl-pyridinium group or the platinum complex itself is detached.
