133 p.Thesis (Ph.D.)--University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 1986.A microwave absorption apparatus has been used to measure a cross section for the three-photon, resonantly-enhanced ionization of Kr(('1)S(,0)) at 193 nm. The presence of a two-photon resonance with the Kr 6p 3/2 (,2) level enabled the generation of large electron densities and a measurement of the two-photon absorption cross section. A similar technique was developed to measure the photoionization cross sections for metastable Kr(,2) (('3)(SIGMA)(,u)('+)) and Kr (5s 3/2 (,2)) at 248 nm. The kinetics result of these experiments led to a method of producing Kr(,2)F (4('2)(GAMMA)). A fluorescence suppression technique was utilized to measure the absolute absorption spectra...
