230 p.Thesis (Ph.D.)--University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 1986.A new relationship between the configurational energy, the valence, and the interatomic distance is presented for liquid metals. The significance of the excess volume of mixtures is discussed, and the importance of thermodynamic modelling including excess volumes is stressed. The relationship between charge transfer and volumetric changes upon mixing is considered. A new two-fluid mixture model is proposed, which is based upon the internal pressure, ((delta)E/(delta)v)T, and the extension of the concepts of Hildebrand's regular solution theory.Modelling of the internal pressure of pure metals is considered using a nealy free electron model. The structure is found to be ex...
