It begins with a general definition of the genre and an examination of its production in filmic and literary texts. Chapter 1 thus situates the fantastic while chapter 2 explores the identity and the otherness of the fantastic agent as represented in and through the text. Reader and spectator strategies are discussed, with emphasis on similarities and differences between the two. Additionally, the ideological implications of the treatment of Woman, her image and her desire are examined.
