269 p.Thesis (Ph.D.)--University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 1988.Recently interest has grown in using quenched and tempered 2.25 Cr 1 Mo steel in pressure vessels and piping systems. This material has a bainitic microstructure with improved short term strength characteristics over the more commonly used annealed form. The bainitic material cyclically softens, however, losing as much as 30 percent of its initial strength in a few hundred cycles at post yield strain ranges.
