Two significant trends in Internet-based production are affecting attitudes and practices in publishing and peer review, and driving change ??? or at least disruption ??? in scholarly communication practices. These are collaborative peer production, and the free/libre movement. These trends are driving changes in online participation, the dissemination and retrieval of information, and the approval and evaluation of contributions.
