Despite the technological advances in languages and tools to support program development, programmers still deliver software with lots of errors. Software testing has been the dominant approach in industry to improve the quality of software at code level. Testing software is not cheap though. A study done in 2002 by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) reports that between 70% and 80% of development costs is due to testing.
