This project chronicles the historical formation of Champaign Urbana from the time of the early Native American tribes to present. The authors sought to better understand key factors in the shaping of the built environment over the past 100 years. The data for this research were obtained through living history, personal narratives, and collected interviews archived in the oral history project at the Urbana Free Library. This project concludes that, despite improvements in the general climate of racial segregation effecting Native Americans and African Americans since the 1960s, racism continues to be a problem.unpublishe
