65 p.Thesis (Ph.D.)--University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 1980.The use of soil fumigation (using metham) and foliar fungicide sprays (using benomyl) reduced pathogen populations in foliar and soil components. Individually they improved some aspects of soybean health, but when used together these chemical controls resulted in consistent increases in plant vigor, photosynthetic mass, and yield. Fumigation followed by inoculation of soil with Phytophthora megasperma var. sojae (PMS) provided a method to evaluate the effect of PMS infection, but symptom development was affected by environmental parameters.
