NOTE: (1) Only the skin and superficial fascia have been removed in this dissection, and the cutaneous nerves and superficial arteries to thethumb, radial side of the index finger, and dorsum of the hand have been retained.(2) The superficial branches of the radial nerve to the hand (see Figs. 68, 89, and 90.1). These supply the dorsum of the thumb, nearly to the tip,as well as the lateral (radial) half of the dorsum of the hand.(3) The radial nerve also supplies the proximal part of the dorsum of the index, middle, and lateral half of the ring fingers, as far as the proximalinterphalangeal joint because the median nerve sends branches around the digits to supply the more distal parts of the fingers.(4) The distribution of the radial artery to the thumb and dorsum of the hand (see Figs. 93.1 and 93.2).
