The Attitudes of Physical Education and Sport Students towards Information and Communication Technologies

AbstractStudies that examine the attitudes towardinformation and communication technologies(ICT) among physical education and sportstudents, pre-service teachers and teachers arefairly limited, even though the investments ininformation and communication technologiesat schools and universities have reached an efficientlevel. This study investigates the attitudesof physical education and sport studentsand pre-service teachers towards ICT, and therelationship between their attitudes and certainvariables such as age, gender, departments,computer familiarity, frequency of computeruse and computer ownership. Computer attitudescales were administered to 337 studentsand pre-service teachers of physical educationand sports, and the data collected were analyzedstatistically. It was found that the students andpre-service teachers of physical education andsports have positive attitudes toward informationand communication technologies, andthere are significant correlations between theirattitudes and certain variables such as gender,grade, computer ownership, and computer instruction.Recommendations are provided.Keywords: Physical education and sports;attitudes; information communication technologies10 Halama
