This paper proposes a low conduction loss Vienna converter for power factor correction and to reduce the harmonic content in the AC mains current for a variable speed induction motor drive. It also enables DC bus capacitor voltage balancing and regulates the DC link voltage. A three-phase, three-level, boost-type Vienna converter having six-switches and two capacitors at the DC link is used at the front end of the drive which possesses a mid-point at the DC bus making it more suitable for the neutral point clamped three-level voltage source inverter.
