A microprocessor based firing scheme for adjustable firing angle of thyristors of line commutated converter is presented. A full range control of the firing angle from zero degree to one hundred eighty degree is achieved through microprocessor software. The scheme uses minimum hardware and is capable of controlling the rectifier, inverter as well as ac controller operating with fixed or variable frequency ac supply
