The article describes some of the inhibitor formulations which were prepared from indigenous chemicals and their effectiveness in controlling corrosion of two oil well tubular steels, J-55 and N-80 steels, in hydorchloric environment. Preliminary experiments at 308K using electrochemical polarization technique indicated that the prepared additives were comparable in performance to 1-octyn-3-ol. Weight loss studies at a higher temperature of 383 plus/minus 2K in a specially designed glass cell showed that one of these additives was very effective although not matching with the performance of 1-octyn-3-ol
