A variety of sulfotransferases catalyze the sulfation process with 3'- phosphoadenosine 5'-phosphosulfate as the sulfate donor. Sulfatases that catalyze the desulfation of different sulfoconjugates are known to be deficient in a number of genetic storage disorders
