The time factor, T, and the degree of consolidation, U, from Terzaghi's theory of consolidation can be shown to have a bilinear behavior when plotted as log (U/T) versus log T. Using this property, a method is proposed for the evaluation of the coefficient of consolidation, Cv. The results obtained using the proposed method are compared with those using other methods in use. A fairly good agreement is obtained, which lends support to the validity of the approach suggested. This approach can be used in all cases including those in which popular methods like square root of time fitting method and logarithm of time fitting method fail
