This paper investigates the direct transition of a system from periodicity to quasiperiodicity through the route of border collision bifurcation. As an example, we analyze the behaviour of a voltage-mode controlled buck converter with pulse width modulation of the first kind. For bifurcation analysis, we use a numerical technique that is independent of the nature of the solution. We show that at the point of bifurcation the eigenvalues discretely jump out of the unit circle, and assume complex conjugate values
