Background & objective: Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is characterized by chronic synovitis, cartilage damage and bone erosion. Both genetic and environmental factors and microbes probably play a role in pathogenesis. Microbes are recognized by Toll like receptors (TLRs) and activate innate immune response.
