Conductance of a number of oxygen, nitrogen, phosphorus, arsenic antimony and bismuth compounds has been studied in fluorosulphuric acid to study their protonation and thus their basic nature. Conductance of halides and oxyhalides of various elements has also been studied to find out if these compounds can liberate halide ions in solution in fluorosulphuric acid. The findings have been supported by i.r. studies
