A plant biomass simulation model developed for shortgrass prairie was adapted to a contrasting, more productive tropical grassland site. Both the sites were dominated by C<SUB>4</SUB> grasses. No structural change in the model was found to be necessary. However, parameters related to photoysynthetic allocation, effects of nitrogen and soil water potential on growth, and root death had to be modified
