We recently showed that IL-4-dependent oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction are associated with allergic asthma. IL-4 also induces a prooxidant enzyme, 15-lipoxygenase, which predominantly expresses in asthmatic bronchial epithelium and degrades mitochondria.
