From studies on a few gravity cores it is known that the absolute susceptibility of Pacific sediments ranges from 10−5 to 10−6 e.m.u. g−1 oersted−1. Using a simple, non-destructive and rapid logging technique, we measured the relative susceptibility, as a function of depth, in 86 gravity cores from the Pacific (Core Library, Scripps Institution of Oceanography). We report the salient features of this investigation (details will be presented elsewhere)
