Background and Aims: Minimal hepatic encephalopathy (MHE) in patients with liver cirrhosis may have prognostic significance with regard to the development of clinical hepatic encephalopathy (HE) and deterioration in patient quality of life. Its prevalence in acute viral hepatitis (AVH) is not known. Patients and Methods: Consecutive 20 AVH patients (age, 29.9± .9 years; M:F 18:2, hepatitis A:B:E: 2:16:2) without overt encephalopathy were evaluated for MHE and followed up.
