Angular distribution of muons pair-produced in pp collisions

We study the angular distribution of muons in pp→μ<SUP>+</SUP>μ<SUP>−</SUP>+anything in a model based on quantum chromodynamics proposed recently to explain the high transverse momentum of the lepton pairs. The coefficients A, B, and C, which occur in the distribution 1+Acos<SUP>2</SUP>θ +Bsin2θcosφ+Csin<SUP>2</SUP>θcos2φ in the μ<SUP>+</SUP>μ<SUP>−</SUP> center-of-mass frame, are calculated as functions of τ=m<SUP>2</SUP>/s (m is the μ<SUP>+</SUP>μ<SUP>−</SUP> invariant mass, √s is the hadron center-of-mass energy) and r<SUB>τ</SUB>=q<SUB>τ</SUB>/√s (q<SUB>τ</SUB> is the μ<SUP>+</SUP>μ<SUP>−</SUP> transverse momentum in the hadron center-of-mass frame). It is found that on integration over r<SUB>τ</SUB>, the distribution is not significantly different from that in the Drell-Yan model, i.e., 1+cos<SUP>2</SUP>θ. However, as functions of r<SUB>τ</SUB>, A, B, and C show striking variations, an experiment verification of which would be a test of the model
