Singlet fission of tetracene is postulated in 1,2-dimethoxyethane solution during electron transfer reaction of tetracene (R) anion and tetracene cation in electrochemiluminescence (ECL) process. The fission process S1+S0→2T1 where S1 and T2 represent the excited singlet state and ground triplet state of tetracene, is favourable due to the close proximity of the above species in the electron transfer reaction R++R-→1R1+R. The results obtained on process efficiency, magnetic field effect on emission intensity and theoretical calculation of ECL yields will be presented in support of the above mechanism
