The mature sclereids occurring in ten Indian species of Memecylon are presented in this paper. They are terminal in position in relation to the ends of the veinlets. The different types of sclereids are described in detail. They serve a mechanical function to some extent. Their probable importance in building up a key for species of Memecylon on the basis of vegetative structures is pointed out
