Optical limiting under picosecond excitation at 532 nm is reported in a set of recently synthesized basket handle porphyrins. The effect is attributed to reverse saturable absorption. Theoretical simulations using a rate equation model satisfactorily reproduce the measurements and establish values for excited state cross-sections and lifetimes
