The blood serum samples of seven Indian elephants were analyzed for their protein distribution both by agar electrophoresis and moving-boundary electrophoresis techniques. The albumin percentage in the elephant serum was found to be low compared to that of other species. The serum indicated the presence of a fast-moving minor component of albumin. The concentration of β -globulins of the elephant serum was found to be high (about 48 %). Two-dimensional agar electrophoresis of the serum showed considerable heterogeneity of β -globulin. Another characteristic feature of elephant serum is the occurrence of γ -globulin in very low concentration
