A novel methylene insertion product is reported. The new compound {(CO)3Fe( μ -CH2)Te}2 has been isolated from the reaction of the mixed-chalcogenide compound Fe2(CO)6( μ-STe) with diazomethane. It has been characterized by IR, 1H, 13C and 125Te NMR spectroscopy. Its structure has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction methods: monoclinic; space group, P21/c; A = 6.743(2), B = 10.996(2), C = 18.007(2) Å, β = 96.60(2)°; V = 1326.3(2) Å3; Z = 4; F(000) = 1024; Mo Kα radiation (graphite monochromated); μ = 6.53 mm-1; T = 293 K; Dc = 2.86 g cm-3; R = 0.065 (Rw = 0.064)
