Ayur-Vedic medicine of India

The medicines used in the Ayur-Vedic medical system are almost all of plant origin. Although this system of medicine, developed by the Hindus in India, has risen and fallen in practice and popularity throughout the centuries, Ayur-Vedic physicians still provide health care for millions of people. Treatment relates the "mahabhutas" (elementary substances) which are proportionally present in the drugs and human bodies. Emphasis is placed on the promotion of good health and prevention disease. Recent investigations by the Indian Council of Medical Research has classified the biological activity of several drugs in the Ayur-Vedic system, encouraging further studies on the effectiveness of the plant substances used in the Ayur-Vedic medical system for the treatment of disease
