Multidrug resistance (MDR) enables cancer cells to escape cytotoxic insults of anticancer drugs. Rapid identification of cells exhibiting the MDR phenotype is very important since it can lead to an effective and individual patient based treatment plan. We have investigated a combined vibrational spectroscopic approach, using both micro-Raman and FTIR techniques, in order to characterise a sensitive human uterine sarcoma cell line MES-SA and its multidrug-resistant derivative Garf.
