An orientation platform, capable of pointing a 75 cm aperture far-infrared telescope to an accuracy of about 0.5 min of arc is described. The performance of the platform as realised in a balloon flight is evaluated. An RMS pointing error of 0.7 min of arc and RMS position determination error of 0.2 min or arc was achieved during the flight
