Rammed earth is an ancient technique for building walls using natural raw materials such as earth, chalk, lime or gravel. It is a technique worldwide spread to a wide variety of countries and cultures. It has a revival in recent years as people seek more sustainable building materials and natural building methods. Rammed earth walls are simple to construct, non-combustible, thermally massive, strong, and durable. They can be labour-intensive to construct without machinery (powered tampers) but nowadays there are several industrialised procedures to do it with minimal man-labour.
