.The selection of highway alternatives is a very complex and challenging problem due to the large number of conflicting factors that must be solved, the great amount and variety of information that must be compiled and processed, and the numerous evaluations that must be performed. Therefore, the motivation of this Master’s Thesis research has been to automate the design process and to achieve better results within a shorter timeframe and at a lower cost, to overcome the limitations of the traditional highway alignment alternative evaluation processes and design.
