The topic of this thesis is system identification and control of two different internal combustion engines, Partially Premixed Combustion (PPC) engine and a more conventional Combustion Ignited (CI) diesel engine. The control of both engines is aimed to emission reduction and to increase the eficiency. There is an introduction to the internal combustion engine, as well as theory used about system identification and Model Predictive Control (MPC). A physical model of a PPC engine was designed. With this model, it was possible to perform simulations and to obtain data to design a cycle-to-cycle state space model used subsequently by the MPC controller. A black box model of the CI engine was designed using data of a real CI engine from another...
